Our real home is in God's kingdom
In my father's house are many mansions...
I go to prepare a place for you."
John 14:2,3 (KJV)
I have a story for you today about two robins who decided to get together to build as nest. So they
looked for just the right branch in just the right tree, and they gathered just the right twigs and dried
grass and bits of string and made themselves a nice, comfortable nest. And they loved their little
nest. It was high up where the cats in the neighborhood couldn'tt get at it, and it had a great view.

They enjoyed their nest all summer, but in the fall, when the weather was getting colder, they knew
it was time to fly south for the winter. They hated to leave their nest, but they packed their bags and
flew down to Florida – just like all the senior citizens. They spent the whole winter lounging on the
beach at Sarasota with all the tourists.

When spring came, it was time to fly back up north. And boy, were they excited! They couldn’t wait
to get back to their nest. But when they got back, they were in for a surprise. You see, the man who
owned the land where their tree was had needed firewood for the winter, so guess what he did?
He chopped the tree down!

I don’t know if you've ever seen two robins crying their eyes out, but it’s not a pretty sight! So they
had to build a whole new nest. And this one was bigger and better and more comfortable than
their old one.

Those robins loved their nest. And just like them, we love our homes, too. That's where we live, it's
where our families are, it's where we grow up. But you know what? The Bible says that God has
something even better in store for us. Let me read what Jesus said in the book of John: He said,
“In my Father’s house are many mansions…I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2,3 KJV)

You see, as much as we love our homes, they're only temporary – just as the robins’ nest was
only temporary. And as beautiful as this church home is, it’s only temporary, too. Our real home is
in God’s Kingdom. And Jesus is already preparing it for us. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait
to see it!!

Let’s pray about that: Heavenly Father, we thank you for our homes and we thank you for this, our
church home. But help us to remember that they’re only temporary and that You have a better and
much more glorious home for us in Your kingdom – which we hope will come soon. Thank You in
the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
