I'm Waiting, Lord
Have you ever had to wait for something you wanted really badly? Are you good at waiting? Waiting is
hard. When you want something, you want it now! There are lots of people in the Bible who had to wait
for various things. Let me tell you the story of one of them.

Her name was Anna. She lived in Jerusalem and after she had been married 7 years her husband died,
and then she was alone until she was 84 years old. The Bible says she never left the temple, but she
worshipped there every day and night.

One day a young couple came to the temple with a little baby. They were there to dedicate their baby to
God. Their names were Mary and Joseph, and the baby’s name was Jesus. Let me read you what
happened next. In Luke 2:38 it says, “Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God
and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.”

She had been waiting all those years for Christ to come, and finally there he was. Her prayers were
answered, but it took years and years of waiting! Now that’s being a good waiter!

Well, you and I don’t have to wait for Jesus to be born – he was born 2,000 years ago. But the Bible tells
us that Jesus is going to come again to set up his kingdom. He even told us to pray about it in the
Lord's Prayer. (“Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”)

It might be soon or it might be many years from now. We’re just going to have to wait for him. Hopefully
we can be good waiters – like Anna. And hopefully, like Anna, we’ll remember to pray for it every day.

In fact, that’s something we should pray about now: Dear Father, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus.
We look forward to when he returns to set up his kingdom and make all things new. Please help us to
be good waiters. We pray in his holy name. Amen.
