Make Sure You Stop
Let’s say you're driving down the street with your Mom or Dad and you come to one of these…
(
Show stop sign). What do you do? That's right, you stop. Then, if there's no traffic coming, you
can start up again.

Do you know why they put up stop signs? They put them up to keep us from having an accident.
Of course, some people don't stop at the stop sign – which is dangerous because you could
have an accident and get hurt. So when you see a stop sign it's always safest to stop the car.

But when you see a stop sign, I want you to think of something else, too. Think of the things the
Bible tells us we should stop. For instance, we should stop lying, we should stop saying bad
things about people, we should stop hating people: in other words, we should stop sinning.

The Bible uses a special word for it: repent. Now, a lot of people think that repent means to feel
sorry for your sins, but it means more than that. It means to stop what you're doing, turn around
and go the other way.

You see, you can't go the right way until you stop going the wrong way.

Here’s what it says in Acts 3:19: “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be
forgiven.”
(NIV)

So from now on,  when you see one of these…(show sign) you can remember we need to stop
going the wrong way and go the right way instead.

Let’s pray: Father God, we really want to go the way You want us to. So please help us to
remember to always go the right way and not the wrong way. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen
Stop going the wrong way
