You know what Thursday is, right? Thanksgiving! What’s your favorite thing about Thanksgiving?
(Solicit responses such as turkey, pies, family gatherings, the parade, etc.)
Well, those things are great, but let me ask you: What is Thanksgiving for? Giving thanks! That’s
what the word “Thanksgiving” actually means. It’s a day for giving thanks.
But you know what? A lot of people don’t even take the time to thank God on Thanksgiving. To
them Thanksgiving is just a fancy meal and a gazillion football games. To them Thanksgiving
has nothing to do with thanks.
But as Christians, we have to make sure we keep the “thanks” in Thanksgiving. We have to
make sure we take the time to thank God for all the ways that He’s blessed us. Like it says in
Psalm 105:1, “O give thanks unto the Lord.”
And come to think of it, should we give thanks to God only on Thanksgiving? No! We should
thank Him every day. So to a Christian, every day is Thanksgiving.
So this Thanksgiving, remember to take some time to thank God for all your blessings. And
remember that we should be thankful every day.
That’s something we should pray about: Heavenly Father, we thank You for all the many ways
You’ve blessed us. The things You’ve given us, the times You’ve protected us and the ways that
You’ve guided us. And we thank you especially for Your son, Jesus. We pray this in His holy
Song: “Give Thanks”
Be thankful every day
"O give thanks unto the Lord" Psalm 105:1 (KJV)
